History Sips: The Romanian Wine Journey
Join us at Corks Wine Bar for an immersive evening of wine, food, and storytelling, as we guide you through the complex, surprising, and often untold story of the 🇷🇴 Romanian wine industry.
This event will be entirely in English as it is dedicated to a growing expat community in Bucharest.
From ancient vineyards cultivated by the Dacians, through the forgotten brilliance of royal cellars, across the industrial grayness of the communist era, and into today’s vibrant, innovative wine scene — this isn’t just a tasting, it’s a time machine in a glass.
🍷 What to expect:
- A curated selection of 5 Romanian wines (and a surprise or two), each paired with a key moment in history
- Tasting bites of traditional Romanian cuisine to match the flavors and the stories
- Learn how politics, tradition, and resilience shaped Romania’s wine identity
- Meet new people, ask questions, and sip your way through centuries of flavor
🍇 Wine Timeline:
- Welcome Drink: Tamaioasa Romaneasca (dry) – From Ancient Greeks and trades
- Crâmpoșie Selecționată – representing ancient Dacian roots and ancient viticulture
- Grasă de Cotnari – a symbol of Moldavian tradition and royal prestige
- Fetească Albă – a taste of communist standardization & quantity over quality
- Fetească Neagră barrique (modern) – showcasing the rebirth and premium potential
- Busuioacă de Bohotin (desert) – a charming, youthful finish for the “new wave” consumer
Whether you’re new to Romanian wine or want to taste it with a fresh perspective, this evening will surprise, educate, and delight you.
